AutoCAD Electrical

Design, document, and troubleshoot electrical control systems using AutoCAD Electrical's specialized schematic, wiring, and panel-layout tools.

Overview

AutoCAD Electrical is a specialized extension of the AutoCAD platform, purpose-built for electrical engineers and designers who create, modify, and document electrical control systems. It streamlines electrical design tasks that would otherwise be slow and error-prone in general-purpose CAD software — from schematic diagrams to panel layouts and wire numbering.

At DIT, this course gives Ghanaian electrical designers, technicians, and engineers hands-on training in the tools that industrial, commercial, and residential electrical design teams rely on daily.

Who It’s For

This course is ideal for:

  • Electrical engineers and technicians who already use AutoCAD and want to specialize in electrical design
  • CAD technicians seeking to move into electrical design and documentation roles
  • Electrical draftspersons who currently produce manual or generic-CAD drawings and need standardized, automated workflows
  • Maintenance and controls engineers who need to read and modify electrical schematics accurately

A working knowledge of general AutoCAD drafting is a prerequisite, as this course builds directly on 2D drafting fundamentals.

Curriculum Outline

Module 1 — Electrical Design Principles Circuit design fundamentals, wiring diagram conventions, and panel layout standards.

Module 2 — AutoCAD Electrical Interface & Tools Symbol libraries, project management within AutoCAD Electrical, and the electrical-specific toolset.

Module 3 — Schematic Design Building ladder diagrams, one-line and three-line schematics, and cross-referencing between drawings.

Module 4 — Wire Numbering & Component Tagging Automated wire numbering schemes, component tagging conventions, and maintaining tag consistency across a project.

Module 5 — Panel Layout & Documentation Panel footprint drawings, terminal strip layouts, and bill-of-materials generation.

Module 6 — Reports & Automation Automated report generation, drawing comparison tools, and productivity techniques for large electrical projects.

Module 7 — Troubleshooting & Standards Compliance Identifying design errors, verifying compliance with industry and safety standards, and quality-control checks before drawing release.

Capstone Project Participants produce a complete electrical control system package: schematic, wiring diagram, panel layout, and bill of materials.

Outcomes

Graduates will be able to design and document complex electrical control systems, apply automated wire numbering and tagging efficiently, and troubleshoot electrical drawings for accuracy and standards compliance — opening pathways into roles such as electrical designer, CAD technician, or electrical draftsperson.

Certification

DIT is an authorized training associate of CADD Centre Training Services (India), one of the world’s largest CAD training networks. Participants who complete all modules and pass the practical assessment receive an internationally recognized Certificate of Completion issued through DIT’s CADD Centre training-associate programme in AutoCAD Electrical.

What you'll be able to do

  • Create and modify electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts
  • Apply automated wire numbering, component tagging, and report generation
  • Design control systems for industrial, commercial, and residential electrical projects
  • Identify and resolve errors in electrical designs to ensure standards compliance
