Project Schedule

Overview

Every project stands or falls on its schedule. The Project Schedule course is a focused, 2-day intensive that takes the scheduling discipline at the heart of professional project management — sequencing, estimating, resourcing, baselining and tracking — and works through it hands-on in Microsoft Project, with an overview of Oracle Primavera for participants who meet it on larger engineering programmes.

It is built for people who already work on projects and need to produce, read or defend a credible schedule: the planning engineer asked for a programme of works, the coordinator who has to explain a slipped milestone, or the manager who needs to know whether a contractor’s schedule is realistic. The course applies the terminology and practice of the Project Management Institute’s PMBOK in a Ghanaian business context, so what you learn maps onto the standards employers and clients reference.

Some professional work experience is recommended so you can relate the exercises to real projects; basic computer literacy is required, and prior exposure to MS Project is an advantage but not essential.

What the Two Days Cover

Day 1 — Building the schedule The project lifecycle and where scheduling sits in it; defining scope and a work breakdown structure; sequencing activities and dependencies; estimating durations; building the schedule in Microsoft Project and reading the critical path.

Day 2 — Resourcing, baselining and control Assigning people and equipment; resolving over-allocation; setting a baseline; tracking progress against plan; identifying and recovering slippage; producing schedule reports for management; an overview of how the same schedule is handled in Oracle Primavera.

Participants leave with a resourced, baselined schedule for a worked project scenario — a file they can adapt to their own work the following week.

Outcomes

Graduates gain a practical, standards-aligned understanding of professional project scheduling — enabling them to plan, resource and control a project schedule with the estimating, sequencing and tracking discipline that employers across engineering, IT, construction and general business increasingly require.

Certification

Participants who complete the course and pass the final assessment receive a DIT Certificate of Completion. The curriculum is aligned to the Project Management Institute’s PMBOK; DIT is not a PMI Registered Education Provider (R.E.P.), and this course does not itself confer a PMI credential.
