If you are in Liberia and want to learn a professional skill properly, with an instructor, in a classroom, and with a certificate at the end, Ghana is one of the closest places to do it. Accra is a short flight from Monrovia, everything is taught in English, and as an ECOWAS citizen you can usually enter without a visa.
This article is for Liberians weighing that trip. It explains how to plan it around a job, which DIT courses fit, and what to check before you go.
Plan the trip around the course, not the other way round
The most common mistake is booking travel first and then looking for a course that fits the dates. Courses start on set intake dates. Work in this order:
- Pick the skill. Decide what you need the course to do for you: a new role, a promotion, a project at work, or an exam.
- Ask for the next start date. Message DIT admissions with the course and the weeks you could travel. Admissions confirms the start date and your total fee.
- Then book. Flights, accommodation and leave from work all follow from the confirmed dates.
Courses that fit in one trip
DIT’s Intensive stream runs the whole curriculum of a course as one block of full-time classes. These are the options for someone travelling from Liberia:
| Course | Intensive length | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| CPP Review Course | 5 days | Experienced security managers preparing for the ASIS CPP exam |
| Project Schedule | 2 days | People already working on projects who need scheduling skills |
| MS Office Automation | 1 week | Beginners who need Word, Excel and PowerPoint for office work |
| Security Management & OHS | 2 weeks | Supervisors and facility staff new to security and safety management |
| AutoCAD 2D | 2 weeks | Beginners in technical drawing for construction and engineering |
| AutoCAD Electrical | 2 weeks | AutoCAD users who draw control panels and wiring |
| Revit Architecture (BIM) | 3 weeks | AutoCAD users moving into building information modelling |
| Project Planning & Management | 3 weeks | Professionals moving into planning and project roles |
The international students page keeps this list current.
Two courses can be combined in a single longer stay. AutoCAD 2D followed by Revit is a natural pair, and our guide to AutoCAD or Revit first explains why that order works. Ask admissions whether the start dates line up before you plan on it.
A note on the CPP and on project management
The CPP Review Course prepares experienced practitioners for the ASIS International examination. DIT does not award the CPP; ASIS does, to candidates who meet its eligibility rules and pass its exam. If you’re unsure whether you qualify, read what the CPP means in West Africa before you book.
The project management courses are PMI-aligned, but DIT is not a PMI Registered Education Provider and neither course awards a PMI credential. Our comparison of PMP, PRINCE2 and local certificates explains which certification needs what.
Entering Ghana from Liberia
Under the ECOWAS free movement arrangements, Liberians can generally enter Ghana with a valid passport and stay for up to 90 days without a visa. That’s comfortably longer than any DIT intensive course, even two back to back.
Bring a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate: Ghana asks for one on arrival.
Rules can change, and only Ghana sets them. Confirm the current requirements with the Ghana Immigration Service before you travel. DIT does not issue visas or permits.
Paying for your course
Classroom fees are listed in Ghana cedis on the Fees page. Admissions confirms your total fee and the payment details that work from Liberia before you pay. Don’t send money until that confirmation arrives. After you pay, send your payment reference to admissions so your enrolment can be processed.
If you can’t travel: online, in US dollars
Not everyone can take two or three weeks away. DIT’s self-paced online courses on DIT Virtual Learning can be taken from Monrovia, Gbarnga, Buchanan or anywhere else with an internet connection. Because they are priced and paid by card in US dollars, the cost is easy to work out without a cedi conversion. The online catalogue is smaller than the classroom one, so check what’s currently open.
Your certificate
Every classroom course ends with a practical assessment. Pass it and you receive a DIT Certificate of Completion, which an employer in Liberia can check at dit.edu.gh/verify.
Be clear about what it is. It is DIT’s own certificate, a record of the skills you were assessed on. It is not a Liberian national qualification. If you need a certificate for a regulatory or licensing purpose at home, check with that body before you enrol. International credentials such as the ASIS CPP are a different matter: they are awarded by their own bodies and carry the same weight in Liberia as anywhere else.
Where you’ll study
DIT’s campus is on the first floor of Obrapa House, Atico Junction, on the Kaneshie–Mallam Highway in Accra. Intensive classes are full-time, so stay within easy daily reach of the campus. Ask admissions about the area before you book accommodation.
